Daniel Hickey Obituary, Death – Daniel P. Hickey, 81, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Dan, a lifelong White Plains native, graduated from White Plains High School in 1960 and joined the navy, serving in Newport, Rhode Island. He married Lee (Timney) Hickey, his wife of 58 years, after getting an honorable discharge.
He joined the White Plains Police Department in 1964 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Mercy College in 1972. He rose through the ranks to the rank of Captain before being named Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety. He dedicated 38 years of his life to his beloved city. He continued to assist the community after retiring as a member of the White Plains Volunteer Fire Department.
Dan liked golf and has been a member of Rye Golf Club for a long time. He put in long and hard hours to build his house into the home he and Lee had envisioned. He cherished his time spent at the pool, on trips, and simply hanging out with his three granddaughters, and he never missed a moving up ceremony, play, presentation, track, swimming/diving meet, or graduation. All who knew him will remember him as a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a true gentleman with integrity, honesty, and service.
He is survived by his wife Lee, children Liz Murray (John Murray) and Leslie Hickey (Daniel McAteer), and three grandsons, Daniel Ferrante, Conall Murray, and Keegan Murray, all of White Plains. Maureen Van Loan, his sister from South Carolina, also survives him. His parents, Vincent and Ruth (Ironside) Hickey, brothers Jimmy, Artie, Jay, Mickey, and Stephen, and sister Kathleen Martin predeceased him.
