Doug Kelley Obituary, Beloved Christian Soldier, Douglas Kelley, Passes Away – Join us in Mourning his Loss

Doug Kelley Obituary, Death – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Douglas Melvin Kelley, aged 78, of Centre, Ala., on Thursday, July 6th, 2023. Surrounded by loved ones, he peacefully transitioned to eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.

Douglas was born on April 26th, 1945, in Cherokee County, Alabama, to the late Ollie Kelley and the late Obera Grisson Kelley. Alongside his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Herman, Junior, Marvin, and Edward “Eb” Kelley, and his sisters, Faye Coley, Louise McGee, and Rovine King. He was also preceded by his brothers-in-law, Runt Qualls, Jeff Hanvey, and John Hanvey.

Mr. Kelley was an active and devoted member of Lakeview Pentecostal Church, where he exemplified the true essence of a Christian man. His unwavering faith, love for gospel singing, dedication to attending church, fervent prayers, and embodiment of Christ’s love touched the lives of all those he encountered.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Sara Hanvey Kelley of Centre; two step-sons, Edwin Kelley (Krista) and Kim Kelley, both of Centre; one daughter, Krystal Collins (Lawrence) of Carrollton; two sisters, Jewell Matthews (Thomas) and Marie Qualls, both of Centre; two grandchildren, Dexter Vines and Anna Collins; two step-grandchildren, Cory Barron and Halely Jenkins; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Hanvey and Wanda Kelley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished members of his church family.

Funeral services honoring the life of Mr. Douglas Kelley will be held on Monday, July 10th, 2023, at 3 PM CST at Exie Congregational Holiness Church. Reverend Matthew Reynolds will officiate the service, and interment will follow in Memory Gardens on Hwy 9.

Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will include Lawrence Collins, Keith Kelley, Jason McGee, Adam Hanvey, Jody Taylor, and Jimmy Williams, with the men of Lakeview Pentecostal Church serving as honorary pallbearers.

Prior to the service, family and friends are invited to gather and pay their respects on Monday, July 10th, from 1 PM until 3 PM at the church.
