James Hahn Obituary, Delaware Military Academy Class of 2020 Student Has Died

James Hahn Obituary, Death – James Joseph Hahn, 21, died unexpectedly on June 15, 2023. His parents are Dr. Robert G. Hahn and Maureen Murphy Hahn. James’s older brother, Padraig, was living near the University of Delaware campus. He was a finance student.

James previously attended Elsmere’s All Saints Catholic School and Wilmington’s Delaware Military Academy. James was an avid sports fan who participated in the Piedmont Cal Ripken League and on their travel teams. As a twelve-year-old, James had the opportunity to represent his team at Cooperstown, New York, at the Field of Dreams event. James was also a left fielder for Delaware Military Academy, where he competed in state tournaments his sophomore and junior years. Unfortunately, his senior year was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

James also played football for St. Mary of the Assumption as a tailback and linebacker, and for D.M.A. as a safety, where he and his teammates competed in the state tournament their junior and senior years. James’ passion for sports resulted in numerous friendships that lasted from the time he was seven years old until he graduated from high school and college. These friends would frequently get together when the Philadelphia teams (Phillies, Sixers, Flyers, or Eagles) were playing. James’s smile and laughter were contagious during these buddy gatherings, and he was always there to support and brighten his friends’ spirits!

James has opted to postpone his college enrollment (pandemic year) until the fall of 2020 in order to join the Delaware National Guard. James completed his basic training at Fort Sill in Oklahoma City. He continued his personal training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he learned to operate heavy equipment for his engineering unit in Newark, Delaware. As a student at the University of Delaware, James finished his finance degree. During the summers, James worked as a lifeguard with Rehoboth Beach Patrol and North Shores Beach Patrol in addition to his National Guard duties.

His sister, Lindsey Hahn (Ryan) of Greenville, DE, his brothers, Padraig Hahn of Newark, DE and Michael Hahn of Greenville, DE, and his maternal grandmother, Maureen Murphy, survive him. His grandfathers, James Murphy and Robert E. Hahn, as well as his grandmother, Sandra (Sisofo) Hahn, died before he was born. James’s brother, Ian, died before him. Everyone who knew James will miss his bright light!

On Sunday, June 25th, 2023, from 3PM-6PM, St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707, welcomes family and friends.
