James Wright Obituary, Resident of Cornelia Dies At 98
James Wright Obituary, Death – On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, James W. Wright, who resided in Cornelia and was 98 years old, passed away. He was the son of the late Frank Wright and Ethel Shirley Wright, who passed away before he was born on August 7, 1924 in Commerce. After serving in the United States Army Corps of Engineers for a period of time, Mr. Wright went on to work in the poultry sector for a total of 38 years before retiring from Fieldale Corporation, where he held the position of general manager.
James was a member of the Level Grove Baptist Church, where he taught the Adam & Eve Sunday School Class for a number of years. He also attended Commerce United Methodist Church and Cornelia United Methodist Church, both of which are United Methodist churches. He had a passion for gardening and planted his final garden when he was 91 years old. He also took pleasure in cultivating flowers in his nursery. Mr. Wright was a devoted follower of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. James was the only surviving member of his direct family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Sara Frances Wright, as well as his son, the Reverend Paul Wright. His parents both passed away before him. The deceased’s son and daughters-in-law, Fred Wesley Wright (Gayle) of Bogart and Wanda Wright of Mt. Airy, are among his survivors. He also leaves behind five granddaughters, 11 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are going to be held at McGahee -Griffin & Stewart on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., and Dr. Brian James is going to be the officiant.
After the service, the burial will take place at the cemetery of the Apple Valley Baptist Church. On Friday, July 7, 2023, the family will be present at the funeral home to greet friends beginning at one o’clock in the afternoon and continuing until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to Sharing & Caring or the construction fund of the Level Grove Baptist Church.
