Joe Papp Obituary, Fairfield CT, Longtime Baseball Coach Has Died
Joe Papp Obituary, Death – A lovely Fairfield family’s life had taken an unexpected turn the previous week. Joe Papp, a baseball fanatic, is a larger-than-life figure who is always there for his friends and family. He has a long history of coaching summer travel teams and minor league teams in Fairfield.
He conveyed his perfectly perfected throwing technique to the young men with such fervor and care that he truly represented the mentorship position. Joe would spend the entire summer at his favorite Penfield Beach sandbar, which he described as “the best beach with the clearest water in CT!” Joe and his family would be in charge at his other favorite beach at Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, later in the summer. Unfortunately, the Papps’ summer has not gone as planned.
Joe’s health has been fast deteriorating at the age of 52, and a trip to the ER a little over a week ago found that he was critically ill and suffering from multiple organ failure. Joe was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer that had spread throughout his body by the time he arrived at Bridgeport Hospital. He is currently receiving hospice care at home, where he is well cared for by his loving family.
Julie, Joe’s wife, and best friend has always been there for him, and now she must confront the dreadful prospect of saying goodbye to Joey. Joe’s son, Graham, is a rising sophomore at Fairfield Ludlowe High School, and Joe’s daughter, Claire, is a rising junior at Clemson University. Joe was obviously proud of both of his children, as seen by his comments regarding Claire and Graham. It’s been painful to watch their father’s health deteriorate so quickly. Joe, a proud father, must be struggling to accept the fact that he will be unable to financially support his family in the future.
This family has several ties to the community. Julie is a well-known schoolteacher at The Southport School and a staunch supporter of many local families. Joe has a landscaping business in the Darien district with many repeat customers. He takes great joy in making other people’s homes, especially his own garden retreat, seem lovely.
