Born on May 12, 1938, on the family farm in Mingo, Larry was the youngest son of Otha Dwight Hulse and Rhea Elizabeth (Wood) Hulse. Growing up, he found joy in the rural life, graduating from Mingo High School with the class of 1956.

Larry served his country with pride as a United States Marine until 1958 and remained on call back for seven years. In 1960, he married his beloved Rosemary Elizabeth Cook, and together they cultivated their family farm and raised three wonderful daughters. Larry’s warm and friendly nature endeared him to all who knew him.

Throughout his life, Larry actively participated in the Mingo United Methodist Church, lending his beautiful bass voice to the Mingo Quartet and assisting with various church events.

He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his wife during Easter and Christmas celebrations. Larry enjoyed socializing with his card club, and his home became a gathering place for the annual Christmas sing-along for over four decades.

An avid traveler, Larry explored all 50 states and made cherished memories on family vacations and outings to Adventureland and Trainland with his grandchildren.

After the passing of his beloved wife, Larry found a new home and forged meaningful friendships at the Mill Pond Senior Living Community in Ankeny, where he resided for nearly eight years. His kind-heartedness and participation in social activities brightened the lives of those around him.

Larry’s legacy lives on through his three devoted daughters: Linda (Lee) Johansen, Sandra (Wayne) Johnson, and Carrie (Jake) Schaefer. He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren: Lucas (Lexie) Johansen, Landon (Lindsay) Johansen, Jessica (Mo Kaidi) Johnson, Keagan (Kayla) Johnson, Sawyer Schaefer, Spencer Schaefer, Sloane Schaefer, and Sutton Schaefer. His seven great-grandchildren: Lillian, Levi, Lyra, Carter, Charlotte, Karson, and Kameron brought him immense joy.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Rosemary, his brother Gene Hulse, and his sister Harriet Hulse Murphy. The memories of Larry’s kind and caring nature will forever be treasured by his family and friends.
