James Merrill Rogers For the period beginning on October 6, 1949 and ending on July 2, 2023,Merrill Rogers, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, has passed away at the age of 73, and we are devastated by this news. Graham and Laura Rogers, her in-laws Murley and Madge Berkshire, her sisters Gertie and Joyce, and Vera, and her brother-in-law Kevin King all passed away before he did.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn; his children, Nancy (Steve), Trevor (Cristina), Birch, and Eva and Niza; his brothers, Cal (Arlene), and Hughie (Bev); his sisters, Norma March (Wayne), Pat Reid (Dennis), Wanda Skinner (George), and Arlean King; his brothers-in-law, Bruce Berkshire (Ivy), Randy Berkshire (Rose), and Ed
Merrill’s best qualities were his gregariousness, warmth, and friendliness, and his hilarious sense of humor (can you hear him cracking a joke right now?!). Everyone he met liked him, whether they were young or elderly. Merrill cherished his loved ones and did everything in his power to make them feel unique. He adored his three granddaughters—Eva, Birch, and Niza—and would do anything to be around them.
Merrill has a long history of musical involvement, performing with the church’s Men’s Fellowship as well as other local bands. Merrill preferred the bass guitar, but the acoustic guitar was always handy for the church choir or a night by the campfire.Merrill spent a considerable portion of his life participating in community events and offering his services pro bono. For a long time, he was an active participant in the Random West Fire Department and the Random Lions Club. Merrill enjoyed seeing new places, riding his motorcycle, hiking in the woods, going on camping trips in his RV, fishing for salmon, and just relaxing by the campfire.
