Major Crimes Detectives from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office detained a 58-year-old woman after she confessed to killing her 35-year-old son and disposing of his remains in Whitman County last summer.
According to a statement from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Christine D. Catelli was arrested and sent to the Spokane County Jail on a charge of Murder 2nd Degree.
At at 8:50 p.m. on January 14, 2023, Spokane County Deputies responded to a complaint of a questionable call. According to the caller, his sister had admitted to killing her son in June. Additionally, the caller mentioned that his nephew, the victim, had not been seen since that time and that he thought his sister was speaking the truth.
In response, deputies made contact with the caller and the suspect, Christine D. Catelli, age 58. The caller informed authorities that Catelli had confided in him on January 14, 2023, claiming she had killed her kid in June 2022, according to the press statement. After reporting the crime and helping law police locate the victim’s remains that had been discarded in Whitman County, the caller drove Christine Catelli from his residence on the west side of the state back to Spokane County.
When Major Crimes Detectives responded, Catelli confessed to the crime. According to reports, Catelli said that she shot the victim many times in June at a house in the 1400 block of West Jennings Road. Catelli then sent the investigators to Gene Webb Road in Whitman County, close to Rock Lake. She admitted to detectives that she shot her kid, wrapped his body in black plastic, and dumped it at the scene while throwing away other pieces of evidence along route.
Detectives discovered a sizable, black plastic bag containing human remains in the same location Catelli had suggested. The location was secured by Whitman County Sheriff’s Deputies until the next day, when it could be thoroughly inspected for evidence in the daylight.
After being taken into custody and being placed into the Spokane County Jail, Christine Catelli was charged with murder in the second degree.
