Ryan Borden Obituary, Tragic Loss: Rising Star Ryan Sean Borden’s Life Cut Short at 33 – Death

Ryan Borden Obituary, Death – Ryan Sean Borden, formerly of Oak Hill and Jackson and more recently residing in Columbus, peacefully departed from this world on June 23, 2023, after a week-long hospitalization for respiratory problems stemming from a severe infection.

At the age of 33, Ryan’s untimely passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. Born in Portsmouth, he was the beloved son of Sandy and Scott Borden of Jackson, who survive him.

During his time as a 6-foot-2 forward on Oak Hill High School’s basketball team, Ryan played a pivotal role in clinching the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s 2009 Division IV State Boys Basketball Championship during his senior year.

His incredible performance in the championship game, as captured in the YouTube video “Ryan Borden 3 Point Shots,” has garnered over 9,500 views.

Ryan honed his skills on the court through participation in basketball camps at prestigious institutions such as the University of Rio Grande, University of Notre Dame, and University of Maryland, where he was recognized as the MVP for his age group.

Ryan furthered his education at the University of Rio Grande, graduating with both a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in education.

His passions extended beyond the court and classroom, encompassing a deep love for music, animals, and sports of all kinds. He delighted in family vacations and cherished attending Notre Dame football games with his loving parents. Helping others brought him immense joy.

In addition to his parents, Ryan is survived by his uncles, B.J. Almond of Houston and Todd Borden of Springfield, Ohio, and his aunts, Kelly Borden of Enon, Ohio, and Tiffiny Borden of Troy, Ohio.

He also leaves behind several cousins. Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents: Ben and Mona Almond, Donna and Richard Borden, and Mildred and Tom Macbrair, as well as his aunt, Pamela Harkless.

Visitation to honor Ryan’s memory will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home, located at 28 Harding Ave. in Jackson.

A funeral Mass, officiated by Father Thomas William Herge, will be held at noon on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, located at 215 Columbia St. in Jackson.
